Of the 35+ active client sites we run in the Dooars belt, around two-thirds are hospitality — boutique resorts in Lataguri, larger properties in Chalsa and Malbazar, and a growing cluster around Gorumara and Murti. The security needs of these properties don't match either the urban hotel playbook or the standard residential security model. This post is what we've learned across a decade-plus of deployments in the region.
What's different about Dooars hospitality security
Forested perimeter, real wildlife
Many properties back onto reserve forest. A guard at 2 AM is more likely to encounter a wild elephant than a burglar. Briefing and SOPs need to cover wildlife protocols — when to make noise, when to retreat, when to call the forest department, never to confront. Our Dooars guards get a specific 2-day add-on on top of standard induction covering exactly these scenarios.
Seasonal occupancy spikes
Durga Puja, Christmas / New Year, and the March–May wedding-and-tourism window can mean 100% occupancy. The rest of the year may run at 30%. Guard count should flex — but the supervisor and the operational backbone needs to stay constant year-round, or knowledge dissipates.
Remote and decentralised
Many properties are 20–60 minutes from the nearest reliable police presence. The guard team is effectively the first response for any incident, period. That means: better training, better radios, and a backup escalation that doesn't depend on a 100 km drive from Siliguri.
Multi-purpose staffing
On smaller properties, the security supervisor often doubles as a night manager, a guest greeter, or an emergency-vehicle coordinator. Guards interact with guests far more than they would at a corporate office. Grooming, language and de-escalation skills aren't optional.
Local hiring is non-negotiable
Hiring guards from Siliguri to commute 60+ km to Lataguri doesn't work — it doesn't scale, retention is terrible, and the guards don't know the local geography or relationships. We hire and train locally for Dooars properties. Most of our Dooars guards live within 15 km of the property they staff.
Typical deployment model
For a 30–60 room resort backing onto forest, our standard recommended deployment is:
- Day shift (06:00–18:00): 2 guards — 1 main gate / vehicle check, 1 lobby / property patrol
- Night shift (18:00–06:00): 3 guards — 1 main gate, 1 mid-property patrol, 1 back-of-house / staff quarters
- Supervisor: Site-based, on-call 24/7, with one full daily review with the property GM
- Backup: A 2-guard quick-response team based in Lataguri or Malbazar, reachable within 30 minutes
Total per-month cost (Premium tier, 24/7 coverage with rotation): typically ₹1.4–1.8 lakh per month for the above. Variations: armed deployment for cash-handling adds ~₹40k, additional female guard for women-staff dorms adds ~₹15k.
What hotel GMs should ask for
When evaluating us or any agency for a Dooars property, ask specifically:
- "How many guards have you deployed in this specific belt?" Generic "we serve the Dooars" answers usually mean a small number.
- "Where do your guards live?" Local should be the default; we can show you guard addresses (anonymised) by deployment site.
- "What's the wildlife protocol if an elephant is on the property at night?" We'll walk you through ours; many agencies will improvise an answer.
- "What's the backup if the on-site supervisor is unwell?" Should be a named, trained replacement, not "we'll send someone from Siliguri tomorrow."
- "Can guards manage check-in for late-arriving guests?" This isn't a typical security function but it's a real operational need; we train selected guards on basic guest handling.
